Carol Vorderman has cancelled her solo flight around the world.
The former ‘Countdown’ host was planning to jet around the globe in her twin-engine propeller plane named Mildred over the next coming weeks after she obtained her pilot’s licence in 2014 but she’s been forced to halt her idea for the time being after her beloved mother Jean, 88, was diagnosed with an incurable cancer.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Carol is obviously disappointed to not be able to go on the journey, but her mum is the most important person in her life and she’s putting her first. She wants to make the most of the time they have left and make sure they’re not distracted by any work commitments. Carol hopes she can revisit the trip at some point in the future again – and she plans to keep flying in her spare time."
Carol was planning to capture her journey through Europe, Asia, Russia, across the Pacific Ocean, the US and back to the UK on camera and turn it into a documentary called ‘Carol’s Incredible Solo Flight Around The World’ – but that has now been axed.
Although she’s cancelled her plans, Carol’s mum is refusing to let her family be sad.
Jean said recently: "At my age I don’t want to undergo any further operations or chemotherapy treatment which can’t cure these new cancers anyway.
"Now my family and me will concentrate on being happy and celebrating the time we have together. I’m refusing to let them be sad."
Carol and her siblings are now caring for Jean, who has previously battled kidney, skin and ovarian cancer, in Bristol.
The presenter said: "I love her beyond measure. We are laughing so much and she is having a lovely time. She refuses to let us be sad so we are taking our lead from her."
