Carl Fogarty was airlifted to hospital over the weekend after he had a "massive crash" during a motorcycle festival in Norfolk.
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ winner – who nabbed the crown for the jungle show three years ago – has suffered two broken ribs, a punctured lung and a broken shoulder blade, but is said to be stable, after he collided with something during the Hooligan final at the Dirt Quake event attended by hundreds of bikers on Sunday (09.07.17).
Taking to his Instagram account, the 52-year-old star said: "Well Sunday was going mega @dirtquake won 5 out of 6 race heats…Errr then had a little crash two broken ribs a punctured lung and a broken shoulder blade.. nothing really to bad.?!!. You can see all the fun, madness, and drama I believe on Wednesday night on itv4 thanks to all the people sending best wishes messages.. except MrsF who hates me right now..!! (I promise I’ll never do another race again x) (sic)"
Event organiser Neil Duncanson has described the smash as "spectacular" but is glad that Carl is on the mend now.
He said in a statement: "Carl Fogarty had a massive crash in the Hooligan final and after the race was stopped he was taken away by ambulance, then airlifted to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with a broken shoulder, broken ribs and a collapsed lung. He’s doing OK, but it was pretty spectacular stuff."
Carl retired from the superbike track in 2000, but has promised his wife Michaela he won’t be racing again following the smash.
