Calum Best’s therapeutic documentary

Calum Best has made a documentary about his late father George Best.
The 35-year-old reality TV star produced and directed the docu-film about soccer star George, who passed away in 2005 at the age of 59, and revealed he found it quite therapeutic.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz at the Fragrance Awards in London, he said: "It’s a film documentary so I go along telling my story, meeting people that knew my dad. The timeline was going back to the States where I was born in San Jose, California, and following the route all the way up until kind of modern day. It was a process and a half, but with doing that and doing my book and growing up a bit, I was comfortable doing it. Since I’ve done that I’m the most comfortable in myself I have ever been, so it’s all very good."
"I suppose the most poignant thing is that I knew everything my dad did on the football pitch, every goal, every move, every duck and dive, but I knew nothing about what he did off the pitch; no places he went, no people he hung out with, and it blew my mind sometimes. I hear stories about my dad almost every day and to really get deep in it with this film was therapeutic but also quite sad at the same time, but that’s the story."
The film has been a labour of love for Calum and he is hoping to show it at upcoming film festivals.
He said: "When my dad passed away I started writing a film about our relationship together and it took me years and years and years to get it all out, but with doing my book and writing this project I finally finished it this year. I finished it with an Italian film director named Luigi Maria Perotti, went and did voice overs in Rome two months ago, and so this year I am going to be taking it film festivals. It’s something I made myself, I produced, directed myself and I’m really proud of it."
Meanwhile, Calum has a reputation as a lothario but insisted that he is now ready to settle down if he meets the right person.
He explained: "I am 35 years old now. I went through a time of madness, of being out constantly and now I am at a point where I feel my health is good, my business is good, my minds right and I’d love nothing more than to share it with somebody. It’s just a point of just meeting that person."
