Busted hope new album doesn’t sound ‘too retro’

Busted hope their new album doesn’t sound "too retro".
The reunited pop rock trio – comprised of Charlie Simpson, Matt Willis and James Bourne – are gearing up to release their first record in 13 years, ‘Night Driver’, and guitarist James says they were "worried" it would come across"too throwback".
He said: "I’m actually pleasantly surprised to hear you say it sounds current, because I was worried it sounded too throwback."
And frontman Charlie, 31, added: "That was something we were consciously doing: we didn’t want it to sound too retro.
"We wanted to make it – not relevant and what’s in the charts at the moment – just not too throwback to an old-school era."
The ‘Year 3000’ hitmakers have been influenced by chart-topping electronic producers Skrillex and Diplo for the new LP.
Charlie told Digital Spy: "We’ve all been talking about loving stuff that Skrillex and Diplo and what those guys have been doing, but it wasn’t really like, ‘Oh we want to sound like that’. Maybe that’s what makes it sound like it’s modern because we’ve taken influences from stuff that isn’t what we used to be like, but what we enjoy listening to."
The trio’s next record will see them ditch the guitars and head in an electronic direction.
And one of the artists Charlie, Matt and James bonded over – when they reunited at the end of 2015 after 10 years apart – was folk artist Bruce Hornsby.
Charlie told the Daily Star newspaper: "When we started to reconnect as a band, James and I were both listening to Bruce Hornsby and The Range.
"It was common ground and mad us think maybe we aren’t far away musically as we thought we were 10 years ago."
‘Night Driver’ – the follow-up to 2003’s ‘A Present for Everyone’ – will be released on November 11.
