Bruno Tonioli wants to play EastEnders villain

Bruno Tonioli would love to play a villain on ‘EastEnders’.

The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge admitted he’d like to break into the world of acting, and he’s already eyeing up a guest spot in Albert Square.

He’s quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "I would love to play a baddie on TV, a very evil character.

"I could be an ‘EastEnders’ baddie. It would have to be scripted so I didn’t have to do it myself though."

The 64-year-old star already has a few credits to his name, including a one-off appearance on ‘The Bill’ and a handful of big screen cameos in the likes of ‘What a Girl Wants’ and ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’.

Bruno – who is currently based in Los Angeles – won’t be able to take part in ‘Strictly’ this year in his usual capacity as a judge in the studio, due to travel restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.

And while he will have his own segment, he doesn’t think it would be "fair" on the contestants and his fellow panellists – Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse – if he was still able to judge the celebs via video link from across the pond.

He said: "I will watch the show and I will do a little segment, which will be shown on the results show. It will be an overview because I think it wouldn’t be right for me to interfere in the judging process because I’m not there. There are things that you see when they are eight feet away from you. It’s not quite the same when you see a shot cut in different ways.

"Craig, Shirley and Motsi know exactly what they’re doing – I’m not going to interfere. It’s not fair, it’s a bit naff actually.

"What I will do is like my point of view, pointing out this and that, and I’m glad I am able to do it."
