Bruno Langley will appear on ‘Coronation Street’ until Christmas Eve (24.12.17).
Show bosses held an internal inquiry following claims the 34-year-old actor sexually assaulted a woman in a nightclub, and the star has since confirmed over the weekend he is leaving the soap after playing Todd Grimshaw on and off for the last 16 years, and his final episode will air on December 24.
A show insider told the Manchester Evening News: "Scenes featuring Bruno will continue to be screened until December 24.
"These were filmed before our inquiry started. Subsequent storylines beyond this point have been rewritten."
A show spokesperson confirmed he had departed the soap but didn’t indicate why, simply saying: "Bruno Langley is no longer contracted to ‘Coronation Street’."
Bruno admitted it was an "absolute honour" to count the show as part of his life and thanked his co-stars for their "love, friendship and support" during what he described as an "extremely difficult period".
He said: "Sadly, I will no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream. Playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since I was 17 years old has been a huge part of my life, and an absolute honour.
"I would like to thank all of my friends who work on the show for their love, friendship and support during this extremely difficult period. I will make a further statement in due course, and when I am able to do so."
On Thursday (26.10.17), Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were investigating an alleged incident which took place at the Band on the Wall nightclub in the city.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 1am on Sunday, 1st October 2017, police received a report a woman in her 30s had been sexually assaulted at an entertainment venue. Inquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made."
