Bronagh Waugh says Joe Tracini’s overdose was ‘scariest day’ of her life

Bronagh Waugh has described Joe Tracini’s overdose as "one of the scariest days" of her life.

The former ‘Hollyoaks’ actress has opened up after her co-star – who has Emotional Unstable Personality Disorder (also known as BPD) – shared a harrowing video from the incident in 2012 for Mental Health Awareness Week.

Alongside a clip he originally posted last year to help those in a similar position, he tweeted: "We’re all away of mental health, but you have to see it to understand it.

"This is how I started to understand me. Hope’s hard to find at the moment, and this isn’t easy to watch because it shows me at my first, but know I’m ok now xx (sic)"

Actor Emmett J. Scanlan revealed he had filmed the heartbreaking footage at the time, while Bronagh explained the incident occurred in her flat.

She tweeted: "It was in my flat. I put Friends on because I thought it might make him less scared.

"It was one of the scariest days of my life & I’m so bloody glad Joe is still here & in my life.

"He brings me & so many others so much joy & I’d be lost without him.

"I love you @joetracini You are a King. And all of your friends love you so f***ing much. Xxx (sic)"

In the emotional clip, Joe – who is known for playing Dennis Savage on the Channel 4 soap – also addressed his family years after the incident, and revealed he wants to talk about his mental health struggles to make his past "worth something".

He explained: "I’m doing this because I can’t go back and tell my family that I’m going to be alright. I can’t tell them that.

"I can’t go back and tell me that I’m gonna be alright. And even if I could, I’d have to tell him the worst things he’s ever going to do – he hasn’t done yet.

"The drinks, the drugs were a symptom of a bigger problem, and if I’d found the bigger problem quicker I would’ve hurt less people. So I’m doing it to try and make that worth something."
