Brian Conley’s Strictly exit felt like ‘funeral’

Brian Conley burst out into a light-hearted rant over the weekend on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ because the atmosphere resembled a "funeral" after he was given the axe.
The 56-year-old comedian hit the headlines earlier this week after it was revealed that he had lunged on to the judges’ podium, branded Darcey Bussell "the horny one" and slammed producers for only spending £25 on the toilet after he was given the chop from the ballroom and latin show after he failed to impress in the dance off.
But the funny man has admitted his bizarre outburst was merely to liven up the studio as everyone seemed so sombre after he was booted out of the competition.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’ on Tuesday (24.10.17), he explained: "It was like a funeral and I just wanted to diffuse the situation. Typical me, I’m an entertainer, I make people laugh. [The host] Tess [Daly] said, ‘Thank you very much go over there’. I said, ‘Tess, I haven’t finished.’ The judges looked so miserable and upset that I said, ‘I want you all to know, I love this man’, talking to Craig [Revel Horwood]. Darcey [Bussell] was really emotional and she looked really upset, so I didn’t know what to say to cheer her up, [so I said] ‘Darcey, you’re very horny’. And of course everyone laughed and it was a bit of fun. [I said] ‘Shirley [Ballas], you’re a legend’.
"And then I said, ‘There’s one thing that really upsets me being on this show… is the toilets’. Everyone thought I was going to say something profound. I went, ‘It’s the toilets, they’ve got to sort them out. Just buy ten quid’s worth of bleach to get rid of that smell’ and that was that.
"Then I thanked my brother [Alan], because my brother is of course the floor manager, and he’s been there right from the beginning.
"I said, ‘The wonderful thing about being on this show is that every single person has come up to me and said I love your brother’. It meant so much and it made me realise how loved and respected he was on the show.
"I didn’t have a rant. I was having a laugh. And that’s all it was. It was a wonderful time. I said, ‘Tess, you can tell me to go and have a dance now’, she went: ‘Brian, go and have a dance’ and I did. I just wanted to diffuse everything.
"I wanted to go, alright, let’s not be down. I don’t want to finish on a down, I know I’m out, but let’s just bring it up now. Typical me. Just wanted to have some fun."
Brian found himself in the dreaded dance-off on Sunday’s results show and, consequently given the boot, after his Jive – which he performed alongside professional partner Amy Dowden – failed to win over the judges when put up against chef Simon Rimmer’s Charleston.
Speaking after the results were announced, Brian showered his professional partner with kind words, though not before he joked he was talking about fellow contestant Aston Merrygold.
He said: "I have loved everything about this, I truly have. It’s one of the greatest shows, it’s a family show, and you know what? There’s been someone by my side all the way through this journey who’s been there every moment, and that is Aston. I love him.
"No! I love this lady [Amy]. I wanted to be on this show forever and ever because I want everyone out there to know how special this lady is. She’s a star, and I love her."
