Brendan O’Carroll said no to Strictly Come Dancing

Brendan O’Carroll turned down the chance to have Mrs. Brown appear on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

The 59-year-old comedian claims he was approached by the BBC to have his ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys’ alter-ego Agnes Brown appear on the celebrity dance contest as part of their Christmas special but decided against it.

He told BBC One’s ‘Sunday Morning Live’: "The idea had been mooted it would be nice in the Christmas special that just once dance with Len [Goodman] and Mrs. Brown would be nice.

"It’s nice to have a hybrid and a crossover between Mrs. Brown and something else but the truth of it is ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ doesn’t need me or Mrs. Brown.

"It’s a great entity in its own right. I have to protect [Mrs. Brown] from Len."

However, Brendan is looking forward to seeing his wife and on-screen daughter, Jennifer Gibney, take to the dancefloor in the upcoming series, for which she’s been paired with professional dancer Tristan MacManus.

He said: "I am so, so proud. Pride in your family or pride in your partner or someone else gives you more confidence."

He added: "I am not a great dancer and not an enthusiast of dancing. I would help in any way I can and the only way I can really help is to let her know that she has all the talent and all the ability necessary to do this and all she had to is put her arms out and fly."
