Brendan Cole was reportedly axed from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ for dancing with Duchess Camilla.
The 41-year-old ballroom professional was left devastated last month when he was axed from the contest and it has now been claimed BBC bosses and show judges were annoyed when Brendan ignored a briefing and asked the 70-year-old royal to dance with him during a special event at Buckingham Palace in November.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "It was the last straw, they saw he couldn’t be controlled.
"The event had been very carefully orchestrated, largely due to Craig [Revel Horwood]’s friendship with Camilla — and everyone, including Brendan, had been given an extremely clear briefing.
"It was a tea dance in aid of an osteoporosis charity encouraging older people to stay active and each of the professionals was to pair up with the guests while Craig danced with Camilla.
"But Brendan being Brendan had to make it about him and ignored everyone and made a beeline for Camilla — who politely didn’t cause a scene.
"Everyone was outraged by the cheek of his actions, he always has to be centre of attention."
Craig, 53, still danced with Camilla after Brendan had twirled her round the room, but he was said to be unhappy about what had happened.
The source added: "He was still very angry about what had happened. He couldn’t believe Brendan would do that after so much careful planning and discussion."
A spokesperson for Brendan insisted he hadn’t gone against any briefing.
The representative told MailOnline: "I can confirm that these assertions are absolutely, categorically untrue. There was no such brief from BBC."
Brendan previously admitted he had probably broken protocol by dancing with Camilla, who is married to Prince Charles.
He said: "I thought somebody was about to grab me and kick me out."
There is no suggestion the duchess was unhappy about dancing with Brendan, or made any complaint.
A Clarence House spokesman said: "The duchess thoroughly enjoyed her dance with Brendan just as much as she did her dance with Craig."
