Bradley Cooper opens up about father’s cancer battle

Bradley Cooper got emotional as he opened up about losing his father to cancer.
The 41-year-old actor spoke out about his father, Charles Cooper’s death from lung cancer in 2011 at the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy launch at Sean Parker’s Los Angeles home yesterday (14.04.16), and admitted he was "lucky" to take time out to care for his dad.
Speaking at the star-studded gala, the heartthrob said: "I just want to tell you about my father Charles J. Cooper, he passed away from lung cancer in 2011.
"I was in a very lucky position because I was able to put everything on hold in all aspects of my life and completely focus on taking care of him."
However, Bradley admitted that despite the resources available to treat his parent, it still didn’t make it any easier.
Speaking about coping with his father’s treatment process, the Philadelphia-born star explained: "[It’s] just simply overwhelming, incredibly stressful, complex and all consuming."
But the ‘Burnt’ star knows his financial position made things easier for his family.
He added: "I can’t even imagine how much more difficult it is for those patients and the families that are less fortunate than I was that simply can’t afford to pay for both treatment and rent."
Bradley went on to pledge that he and Napster founder Sean will launch a new initiative in the coming months to help ease the financial burden on patients and their families so that they can focus on treatment.
He said: "My hope is that one day every person fighting cancer will receive the full support they need to maintain their quality of life from the day of diagnosis to the end of their treatment regardless of economic or social status."
The event saw guests including John Legend, Sean Penn, Orlando Bloom, and his singer girlfriend Katy Perry celebrate the tech guru’s cancer research foundation, which has received a $250 million grant to fund its research.
