Bill Turnbull says final goodbye to BBC Breakfast

Bill Turnbull said an emotional goodbye to ‘BBC Breakfast’ this morning (26.02.16) following 15 years on the show.

The 60-year-old host, who announced his departure last year, was visibly moved when he sat on the red sofa today to present his final ever episode of the news programme.

Just minutes before he left the screen, he said his final goodbye to the public in a heartfelt speech, saying: "I have always believed it is a privilege to broadcast anywhere on the airwaves, but to present this programme has been a special one.

"I’ve had a wonderful time and with my friends and colleagues who have had a lot to put up with over the years. Above all though, thank you for letting me into your homes whether it is in the kitchen, the living room or as I am often told, the bedroom. Whether you have been with us for the past 15 years or just this morning, I hope you found it worthwhile, it certainly has been for me."

The much-loved presenter kicked off his last day on ‘BBC Breakfast’ being mocked by his colleagues, before being gifted with a large cake and forced to watch an emotional montage.

Susanna Reid, who used to present the morning show alongside Bill before she was swiped by ITV, led the tributes by wishing the broadcaster all the best for the future.

She said in the pre-recorded video: "Good morning Bill and goodbye from your second TV breakfast wife … From interviews that didn’t always go to plan to sharing ‘Strictly’ tips… I feel privileged to have shared a sofa with you."

James Corden added: "For so much of my life you have been my morning glory and I’m going to miss you every day."

And ‘EastEnders’ star Adam Woodyatt concluded on behalf of the BBC soap: "Just a quick word for us to wish you well, enjoy not getting up so early in the morning anymore."

Meanwhile, Bill will be replaced on the breakfast show by Dan Walker as he saddles up next to Louise Minchin on the sofa three days a week – Monday to Wednesday – from later this month.
