‘Coronation Street’ and ‘EastEnders’ crossed paths last night (23.04.20) as Beverley Callard appeared as Liz McDonald in Ian Beale’s ‘Then Big Night In’ pub quiz.
‘Corrie’ legend Beverley’s character Liz appeared midway through the ‘EastEnders’ sketch, in which Adam Woodyatt’s alter ego Ian Beale was hosting a virtual quiz via video call for his fellow Albert Square residents during lockdown.
Several Walford regulars appeared on screen, including Max Branning (Jake Wood), Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) and Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), and then Liz popped up.
She said: "I think I might be in the wrong video chat.
"Is this the virtual quiz night for the Rovers Return?"
The Albert Square residents were bemused and upon finding out it was the Queen Vic pub quiz Liz jokingly asked if she could get a drink for less than £10, in reference to some of the prices in the capital.
But that rubbed landlady Linda up the wrong way, and she blasted: "Get out of my virtual pub," in a nod to Peggy Mitchell’s (Dame Barbara Windsor) iconic "get out of my pub" line.
Linda told Liz she was barred from the boozer, and the Weatherfield legend returned the favour.
She said: "With pleasure, and don’t come to Rovers! You’re barred."
The skit aired during the BBC’s charity telethon ‘The Big Night In’, which raised money for both Comic Relief and Children in Need.
Soaps have paused filming following the country’s lockdown, with ‘Corrie’ reducing output from six episodes to three a week. And ‘EastEnders’ have cut back from four episodes to two a week.
