Beth Tweddle has got engaged.
The 31-year-old retired gymnast was left speechless when her long-term boyfriend Andy Allen popped the question with a huge diamond ring whilst they were in Brazil for the Rio Olympics over the summer months.
Speaking to Hello! magazine, the star said: "I was totally shocked! I knew he was the one for me, but I had absolutely no inkling of what he was planning to do, or that he’d been brought a diamond ring with him to Rio. It was a moment I will never forget. I am so excited about the future."
Beth’s exciting engagement is a wonderful end to a traumatic year after she spent four months in hospital at the beginning of 2016 when she fractured her spine on ‘The Jump’.
The brunette beauty had to undergo spinal surgery after she crashed into a barrier when landing from a jump on the winter sports show back in January, and has admitted she still finds it tough to talk about the accident.
She said: "I am still seeing a psychologist to process what happened and am working with my physiotherapist and surgeon at getting full range in the neck and getting everything to strength. It’s still quite a long road."
The star believes she wouldn’t have got through her injury without her new fiancé as he has stuck by her when she was "really struggling."
She said: "He is the one waking me up and seeing me sobbing my heart out. My parents and friends have been there for me but Andy is the one who sees me at night when I am really struggling."
The news of the proposal comes after Beth recently admitted she wouldn’t let the crash hold her back, and she would continue to live her life as normal.
She said previously: "I don’t want this accident to define me. I want to be able to go out there and do what I normally do. I love working with children and inspiring them to achieve their dreams. I’m glad to say I pushed through it."
