Benidorm to get the axe?

‘Benidorm’ may get the axe.
The resort sitcom has been on screens for over 10 years but it looks like bosses are now toying with the idea of pulling the plug on the comedy because viewer figures have started to plummet and some of the well-loved cast members have left for other things.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Some feel the show has done its time. It’s still popular but many of the old faces are long gone.
"There is a feeling it is going through the motions. Series 11 is yet to be commissioned and the concern is if it does take a break it might never come back."
And John Challis, who plays conman Monty, thinks "mucking about" with the time slot has turned people off but he’s impressed with how well it’s done over the years.
The former ‘Only Fools and Horses’ star explained: "He said: "I think the show may take a year off for a pause and rethink. I think it’s ideal to come out in January or February, and I’m looking forward to it but there’s no guarantee."
However, a representative for ITV insists no decision has been made about the next series of the programme yet and there may be an opportunity for it to be recommissioned.
The spokesperson told the publication: "The new series airs next year. Any decisions on commissioning will be made around then."
Meanwhile, the cast are currently in Spain, filming series 10 of the comedy and it’s believed the next instalment will be better than ever as bosses have secured some exciting cameos – including Bobby Ball, who is one half of the comedy duo Cannon and Ball.
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ contestant had hoped to keep his appearance a secret until the show airs in 2018, but he was spotted filming in the Spanish resort by holidaymakers.
His character is said to be linked to the Dawson family.
The new series of the show will also see a guest appearance from former Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley, and programme bosses are keen to sign more big names up to mark a decade on screen.
A source said recently: "There are more names to come. We’re going all out to make this a series to remember."
