Ava DuVernay gave J.J. Abrams tips on a fight scene in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.
The 50-year-old filmmaker has revealed he relied on the advice of his close friend for the scene which saw Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) fight Rey (Daisy Ridley).
Speaking in a commentary track on the film’s 3D collector’s edition DVD, he said: "I showed an early cut to my friend Ava DuVernay, and she had a bunch of great suggestions. One of them was she really wanted to see Daisy, in her attack on Ren, have one really cool moment."
Meanwhile, Abrams previously revealed he would love for DuVernay to direct one of the movies from the franchise.
He shared: "One name that immediately comes to mind [as someone who should direct a Star Wars film] is Ava DuVernay, who I thought did just a mind-blowingly great job with ‘Selma’. And getting to know her a little since that movie … she is such a fan of genre films and storytelling."
Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg recently recalled how J.J. Abrams’ wife Katie didn’t want him to direct ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’.
Steven shared: "I brought J.J.’s name up. I thought J.J. would be the best person to direct Episode 7 and I called J.J. and said, ‘Would you do it if it was offered to you?’ He said, ‘I would but my wife won’t let me because she doesn’t want me to restart any more franchises.’ But I went to Kathy and asked if I could get J.J. to say yes to this would you consider it? Kathy said, ‘Are you kidding? Of course I would. But why would J.J. do ‘Star Wars’; he’s already done ‘Mission Impossible’ and ‘Star Trek?’"
