Aston Merrygold delays solo album to nurture sound

Aston Merrygold has delayed the release of his debut solo album.
The 28-year-old singer – who rose to fame in boy band JLS alongside Marvin Humes, Oritsé Williams and JB Gill – has revealed that he wants to define his own sound so that fans can recognise his hits as a solo artist before he shares his new album ‘Showstopper’ with them.
He said: "The album has been pushed back to sometime next year, I want to define a sound before giving them a whole new album.
"For the next little while I need to keep pushing out singles, just so people can recognise an Aston song and really get used to the idea of me being solo and having my own sound."
And the ‘Get Stupid’ hitmaker also insisted that he won’t be setting a date for his upcoming album until he feels ready and happy with his new tracks.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "I am not making an album and putting it out for the sake of it and then it going nowhere, it has to be fun and feel right.
"There will be some similarities to JLS as I was writing with the group but I did start when I was young.
"It’s been 10 years, so I won’t sound like a 19-year-old me."
Aston previously said he has found it "liberating" to solely be in control in the studio working on his own record.
He previously said: "The experience has been liberating so far. It’s exciting because you don’t know what’s round the corner."
Discussing whether he feels lonely without the JLS guys with him in the studio, he added: "Not so much because I’ve got a fantastic team. Publicly me and the boys aren’t together as a band, but we’re still in touch, we’re always messaging each other and we’re behind each other 100 percent."
However, he has ruled out a reunion with the ‘Beat Again’ group – who split up in 2013 – and says they have "no plans" to get back together because they are content doing their own separate projects.
Asked if they will reunite, he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "No it’s not in the plan. I think everyone expects it because of what has been happening over the last few years in terms of everyone has been doing it [reuniting].
"But, we made the decision that we are happy – and we are still family and we are still close – and we are happy to try new things. There is now plan I am afraid."
