Ashley Cole has sold his and Cheryl Tweedy’s former marital home.
The 36-year-old footballer – who was married to the 34-year-old singer from 2006 to 2010 – is said to have offloaded the plush property, based in Surrey, south east England, for less than the £7.5 million asking price.
A source said: "Ashley had to take a substantial cut as he realises he just needs to get rid of it."
Ashley became a father for the first time earlier this year when his girlfriend Sharon Canu gave birth to their son – whose name hasn’t been revealed – in February 2016, and they now live in Los Angeles, where he plays for soccer side LA Galaxy.
The source added to The Sun newspaper: "His life is in America now with his child and partner so he knows he needs to let go. This was the final goodbye."
Last month, Cheryl’s dog Coco, who she adopted with Ashley in 2006, sadly passed away.
She tweeted: "She’s very sweet. Girl dogs are always so cute. Sadly my little Coco passed away last week (sic)"
Since their divorce, the former couple were said to have agreed to "temporary custody" of Coco and their other pet pooch Buster.
An insider said at the time: "The dogs mean the world to both Cheryl and Ashley.
"Cheryl, in particular, is attached to them and, in the place of children, would do anything for Buster and Coco. She doesn’t want to lose them.
"They want to sort this out as amicably as possible. So, to keep the peace, Cheryl is allowing Ashley to spend a few days with them."
Since splitting from Ashley, Cheryl married Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in July 2014 but they divorced in 2016.
She then started dating One Direction singer Liam Payne, who she has seven-month-old son Bear with.
