Anthony Daniels would "argue" with J.J Abrams on the set of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ over C-3PO’s red arm.
The 70-year-old actor was thrilled to work with the director on ‘Episode VII’ but revealed they clashed about the decision to give the golden droid a red arm and leave fans in the dark as to how the robot – who is built to follow etiquette and protocol – came to harm.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz at the Jameson Empire Awards in London on Sunday (20.03.16), Anthony said: "I will tell you that J.J. and I used to argue a lot because I wasn’t sure about the red arm as a piece of prosthetics and neither was C-3PO, so I wanted to do other things but J.J. is the boss man so he got a red arm."
The veteran actor praised the director for "listening" to him and says eagle eye fans should notice that C-3PO regains his golden limb at the end of the movie, thanks to his persistence.
Anthony joked: "Every day I would go, ‘No forgiveness, no forgiveness!’ … And in the last frame of the movie, C-3PO is waving goodbye to the Millennium Falcon with a gold arm and that was J.J. listening to me. But I believe there is a comic book coming out with explains very realistically why C-3P0 had a red arm, it’s quite the story."
Prosthetic differences aside, the pair get along great and have indulged in a bit of harmless banter ever since.
He added: "We used to tease each other a lot. He sends me cards now with drawings of the red arm."
Other celebrities to attend the awards – hosted by David Walliams – were ‘Star Wars’ actors Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, who picked up the Best Newcomer gong.
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ was the biggest winner on the night taking home five prizes, including J.J. Abrams being recognised as Best Director.
