Anthea Turner says death is easier than divorce.
The 57-year-old TV presenter split from her husband of 13 years, Grant Bovey, in 2012 after discovering he had cheated on her and Anthea admitted that she struggled to cope.
She told The Sunday People: "Fear makes us make bad decisions, hold on, put up and shut up. I knew it was time to go. But honestly death is easier than divorce. Death is final. There is no rejection. Divorce is ongoing."
However, Anthea turned to therapy as a way to help her cope with the split and says getting professional help was the best thing she could have done.
She said: "I got to the point where I realised I could only get so far talking to friends.
"I needed professional help to sort my life out – from someone who didn’t know me – and it really helped."
And although she was left heartbroken by the end of her marriage, Anthea – who has a new book called ‘How to Survive a Divorce’ – hopes to find love again, even if she is "rubbish" at dating.
She said: "I’m rubbish at it, but I think I will love again. There is a different between dating and going out. You can be a serial dater and not be exclusive. I think of it as auditioning men.
"I know what I want and what I deserve. I want someone to respect me. That’s really important to me. Your s**t shapes you. My divorce happened because there had been a lack of respect."
