Anna Friel has confirmed ITV have delayed airing ‘Marcella’ until the autumn.
The 43-year-old actress told fans the broadcaster has withheld screening series three of the detective drama until after the summer, amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday (08.04.20), she wrote: "’Marcella’ will be shown in the autumn! Sorry for those of you waiting . Xxx (sic)"
The series – which was first screened in 2016 – will see detective Marcella Backland dig deep into her mental health issues and juggle life as an undercover police officer in Belfast, taking on an infamous crime family.
The second series last aired in 2018 and fans were left devastated knowing they will have to wait even longer to find out what will happen next.
One fan replied: "No!!!!!! I have been waiting forever!! My favorite show!! (sic)"
But some were grateful for an update and wished the actress and crew well during this unprecedented time.
One wrote: "Fantastic, looking forward to it already. Always good to have something for the darker months (sic)"
Another tweeted: "This would have been a good time what with the staying indoors, but I continue to wait until later this year. Hugs to you and the entire cast. You are the best. (sic)"
ITV previously confirmed Amanda Burton has joined the cast of ‘Marcella’.
The ‘Silent Witness’ actress will appear alongside fellow newcomer Aaron McCusker – who played Freddie Mercury’s partner Jim Hutton in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ – in the upcoming series as the crime family matriarch Katherine, with former ‘Shameless’ actor Aaron playing her son Finn.Hugo Speer will reprise his role as Frank Young after a brief appearance at the end of the previous season.
As well as new faces – including the likes of Kelly Gough, Eugene O’Hare, Paul Kennedy, Martin McCann and Michael Colgan – Ray Ranthaki will be back for the new eight-part run as Rav Sangha.
