Angelina Jolie’s daughter cast in ‘Maleficent’ for braveness

Angelina Jolie’s daughter was cast in ‘Maleficent’ because she was the only child that wasn’t scared of her mother’s costume.

The 38-year-old actress has taken on the role of the evil fairy in the upcoming adaptation of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and has admitted that her now five-year-old daughter was only cast in the film because the other young actors and actresses were too scared of her costume.

She said: "The other three and four-year-old [performers] wouldn’t come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn’t afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv."

The ‘Salt’ star also spoke about her character and her own casting in the film – which will tell the story of Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent’s point of view – and claims people think she was the perfect choice.

She told Entertainment Weekly: "The exercise wasn’t, ‘how can we have fun with a villain?’ It was ‘what turns people evil and vile and aggressive and cruel? What could have possibly happened to her?

"It is really funny when people say you’d be obvious for a great villain."

Angelina has five other children – Shiloh, Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Knox – with partner Brad Pitt and says she’s thrilled her new film has changed their opinion of Maleficent.

She added: "I heard Shiloh getting into a fight with another kid, defending Maleficent, saying, ‘You don’t understand her!’"

Maleficent is set for worldwide release on May 30.
