Neighbours’ Andrew Morley wants to become a full-time firefighter.
The 26-year-old actor – who has just joined the long-running Australian soap as mysterious Jack Callahan – has been volunteering for the fire service in Victoria for 11 years and has admitted he’d happily ditch his life in front of the camera in order to save lives permanently if the opportunity was to arise in the future.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, he said: "The skill that I have within the brigade can so easily be transferred into a permanent paid firefighter so I would not turn that down but I feel like in ten years time I could easily go into that with a family and a bit more of a chilled out lifestyle, when I’ve picked a place I want to live. Then I’d be more than happy to remain a firefighter, it’s rewarding, fulfilling and challenging."
The handsome star has no plans to turn his back on acting any time soon but sometimes finds it hard to work out the balance.
He explained: "I went to a car accident at about 7:30 in the morning and I had to be on set by 9:30 and it was a pretty serious incident and in the end I had to call another member to come pick me up so I could go back to my car and go to work.
"But there are some moments where you do need to be cautious. There’s also been some jobs that have been in the middle of the night but won’t finish until seven the next day so if you have a big day ahead you have to think ahead and it depends how significant this call out is going to be and is it really necessary to go."
‘Neighbours’ airs weekdays on Channel 5 at 1.45pm and 5.30pm.
