Andrew Hayden-Smith joins Hollyoaks

Andrew Hayden-Smith has joined the cast of ‘Hollyoaks’.
The 32-year-old actor – who’s famed for playing Ben Carter in BBC’s ‘Byker Grove’ from 1995 until 2003 – is set to star in the Channel 4 soap as Detective Sergeant Armstrong.
Taking to his Twitter account on Thursday (12.05.16), the hunk wrote: "Guys! I’m so excited to tell you (finally!) that I’ve joined the cast of @Hollyoaks as DS Armstrong (sic)"
The handsome officer will waltz onto screens next month when his alter-ego works alongside DS Thorpe (James Bradshaw) on the mind-boggling investigation into the shock death of Patrick Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) earlier this year.
Fans of the show have gone through months of frustration as they watched Nico Blake (Persephone Swales-Dawson) brutally smother her grandfather with a pillow at the start of the year, while Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) and Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) hid his body.
For the past few months, the guilty trio have been sleeping with one eye open and watching their backs, terrified the police will come knocking with evidence of their evil crime.
Earlier this year, Patrick had asked his wife Maxine to help him end his life as he was suffering from the terminal illness motor neurone disease, but he quickly changed his mind and chose to live after realising she still loved him.
But it wasn’t his spouse he needed to be concerned about as Nico later overheard via a baby monitor that the abusive man had sent a DVD to police officer Ben Bradley (Ben Richards) revealing that she had brutally killed his daughter Carly Bradley (Sophie Wise) last year.
And, when rage took over, bitter Nico did the evil deed and stopped her grandfather in his tracks once and for all.
Meanwhile, Andrew most recently starred as Billy in Russel T Davies’ shows ‘Cucumber’ and ‘Banana’.
