Amy Walsh put her body through "hardcore craziness" while filming Emmerdale’s factory fire.
The 32-year-old star’s alter-ego Tracy Metcalfe gets trapped in the building when a blazing inferno breaks out tonight (01.08.19), and the actress admits it was "hard work" shooting the intense scenes.
She said: "I was trapped in a studio for two days with smoke. It was all health and safety safe, but you did feel like you were next to open flames.
"You were blowing your nose and it was like being on the Underground.
"It was hardcore. Coughing and putting your body through that kind of craziness is hard work, but I love it."
The fire will see one Emmerdale resident lose their life, and Amy admitted knowing one of the cast members were leaving added to the emotion of the plot.
She said: "It’s been a sad, emotional storyline because you know someone is going at the end of it, but at the same time wonderful because it’s such a big stunt and big episode that we’re all really proud of."
Upon hearing about the factory fire storyline, Amy admits she wasn’t initially concerned about her character potentially meeting her maker because she doesn’t work at the factory, but she soon grew worried when she was told Tracy would be trapped in the building.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, she added: "There is that thing that filters through the building where it is like, ‘There’s going to be a big fire, someone dies.’ And you’re like, ‘Oh.’
"Then you hear, ‘It’s at the factory,’ and you think, ‘Oh that’s fine, I don’t work anywhere near the factory. I am safe.’
"Then all of a sudden you’re like, ‘What? Tracy goes up there for something – why?’
"But for soap actors and any actors, no job lasts forever so you’ve just got to be glad of your time there and take it gracefully if it ends."
