Amy-Leigh Hickman praises Michael C. Hall’s Safe ‘magic’

Amy-Leigh Hickman says Michael C. Hall brought a "magical energy" to ‘Safe’.
The ‘Ackley Bridge’ actress loved teaming up with the ‘Dexter’ actor – who plays Dr. Tom Delaney in the Netflix drama – and believes he brought a "fresh energy" to Harlan Coben’s thriller.
When asked what it was like having a big US star in the British drama series, she exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Most of my stuff wasn’t with Michael. I had some bits with him, but yeah it is always nice.
"They bring such an exciting, fresh energy. It is nice to have … there was something about his energy, something kind of magical about him.
"It was really nice to work with him, he’s a really, really lovely man."
The former ‘EastEnders’ star was delighted when she was told she had landed the role of Sia Marshall in ‘Safe’, after previously thinking the part "had gone" after she didn’t hear back.
She said: "I’d been on holiday to Greece and I came back a couple of days early because I was tired, I’d been working a lot, and I thought I would just settle in to my new flat.
"I was just chilling out at the flat one day and I thought the role had gone because I hadn’t heard anything for a while.
"I just let it go in my mind but I got a call the day I landed home saying I’d been cast.
"I was so happy I’d decided to come home so I could enjoy it and celebrate with my friends."
The 20-year-old actress knew she wanted a role in ‘Safe’ as soon as she read the first draft of the script, and she was particularly keen to land the part of Sia after watching Harlan’s crime drama ‘The Five’.
She added: "I’d watched ‘The Five’ before so I knew of him, which is why I almost couldn’t believe I was going to be part of something like this.
"When I picked up the first draft of the script I knew exactly who I wanted to play, and I had to be a part of it.
"Everyone was saying to me at the read-throughs, ‘I wish I could play Sia,’ so I did feel very privileged to be a part of one of Harlan’s projects."
All eight episodes of ‘Safe’ are available on Netflix now.
