DMX has signed up to star in new indie feature film ‘Pimp’.
The 45-year-old rapper will appear in this new project created by writer-and-director Christine Crokos about prostitution in America.
Crokos is famed for her work on ‘Bang Bang Wedding’ and, according to Deadline, DMX is the latest addition to the cast.
As a rapper he guest-starred alongside Jay-Z on the single ‘It’s Murda’ from Ja Rule’s first album and has starred in 2000’s American action film ‘Romeo Must Die’.
This latest Indie feature film looks at life for women on the streets of New York in the middle of the hustles and dangers facing those working in the illegal sex trade.
It centres on a love story between a pimp, played by Keke Palmer who starred in ‘Akeelah and the Bee’ and her girlfriend, played by Haley Ramm, star of ‘The Originals’ who dream of a better life away from the Bronx.
Filming is currently underway at the heart of the Bronx in New York, with Alexis Varouxakis of 1821 Pictures and Adrenaline Entertainment is producing.
Varouxakis said: "This movie is quite unique. The writer-director is a woman. All the lead characters are women and at its core it is a love story, but it takes place in a harsh world where women have to hustle to survive. We have never seen a woman pimp before with a girlfriend."
Also starring in the film is Aunjanue Ellis of ‘The Help, Birth of a Nation’, ‘Finding Carter’ star Vanessa Morgan and ‘Twilight’s’ Edi Gathegi.
