Amanda Holden: Postponing BGT is for the best

Amanda Holden thinks postponing ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ is "for the best".
The 49-year-old judge received a call from ITV bosses revealing the talent competition’s live shows have been pushed back amid the coronavirus pandemic, and she doesn’t think the format would work without a studio audience.
Speaking to Ashley Roberts on Tuesday’s (24.03.20) ‘Heart Breakfast’, she said: "We got the call over the weekend and I think it’s for the best.
"I mean I think that Ant and Dec did an amazing job of ‘Takeaway’ on Saturday but I’m not sure our show – I think our show would suffer quite badly from not having a proper audience."
The decision to postpone the live shows comes as presenting duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly continued to film their live television programme ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ in an empty studio.
Instead, the pair asked viewers to submit clips of their households dancing to be a part of the episode’s finale.
Meanwhile, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ bosses think the live shows will resume in September, but Amanda suggested it could be halted for longer to avoid competing with other similar programmes.
She continued: "So yes we have heard it’s the Autumn. I would say it might be later than September but it’s quite a competitive time of year as well so.
"I’m hoping we can still strip it, strip means we sort of do it every single day like we used to or we might end up doing it over the weekends but it’s all still in the running but I definitely think it’s for the best."
The audition episodes are still scheduled to air as normal, which the ‘Wild at Heart’ star believes will bring some "cheer" to audiences at home.
She added: "Audition shows are definitely coming and they are better than ever, so I hope everyone loves that and can cheer up by watching that."
Tune into ‘Heart Breakfast’ with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden weekdays from 06:30 – 10:00.
