Amanda Barrie electrocuted herself at her home.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress has heaped praise on the London ambulance service after the 83-year-old star – who played Alma Halliwell in the ITV soap – "lit up the West End", and admitted the incident was "very scary".
She wrote on Twitter: "Thankyou to my five heroes. So, last night I lit up the West End by electrocuting myself in my own flat. Eek! Magnificant #FirstResponders came to my rescue. Very scary but am still here, thanks also to @uclh God bless the @NHSuk (sic)"
Several supporters took to the social media site to express their delight that the former cobbles favourite escaped injury, including ‘Only Fools and Horses’ star John Challis.
He wrote: "Amanda Barrie! What are you like?! So happy you are unharmed.XX (sic)"
As well as being a Weatherfield wonder, Amanda was also known for appearing in two of the ‘Carry On’ films, ‘Carry On Cabby’ and ‘Carry On Cleo’.
One imaginative Twitter user wrote: "Carry on Sparky (sic)"
Amanda’s electric evening comes just months after she got another surprise when she discovered she is related to current ‘Corrie’ cast member Sally Ann Mathews (Jenny Connor).
Speaking on ITV show ‘Coronation Street’s DNA Secrets’ in September, Sally said: "I am so surprised, but thrilled. In a bizarre kind of way, of course it was Amanda.
"That’s what’s really weird about it."
Amanda – who portrayed Alma on the soap from 1981 to 2001 – added: "Funnily enough, I always felt close to Sally Ann. Now I feel extremely close and extremely proud."
