‘Allo ‘Allo!’s Vicki Michelle hits out at BBC for no revival

‘Allo ‘Allo!’s Vicki Michelle has lashed out at the decision not to revive the classic World War II sitcom.
The 65-year-old star- who played prostitute-turned-waitress Yvette Carte-Blanche in the comedy – is devastated the BBC have decided not to give the sitcom a reboot like ‘Are You Being Served?’ for fear viewers might take offence due its portrayal of Germans as incompetent Nazis.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she said: "I cannot stand political correctness. Where is the sense of humour? If you can’t take a bit of ridicule, you’re not human.
"Now you’re not allowed to say anything about anyone, which kills conversation as you’re worried about saying the wrong thing all the time, which is sad.
"Some of ‘Allo ‘Allo was risqué and there were plenty of double entendres, but that’s what made it funny.
"If 80 countries have bought it and are laughing with it, that shows what it is what people like."
And Vicki is so desperate for a reboot that she has offered to write it herself because she wants to make sure all the remaining original actors are cast in it.
She explained: "Ideally people still want to see the original actors, but sadly a lot are no longer with us, and those of us who are still around would need to be portrayed as we are now which could be complicated.
"If it was up to me, I would re-write ‘Allo ‘Allo! with surviving cast members maybe in different parts, and have the younger characters played by our children."
‘Allo ‘Allo!, which is set in a German-occupied France, ran for 10 years from 1982 until 1992 and focused on cafe owner René Artois, who was played by Gorden Kaye.
Meanwhile BBC bosses are adamant "political correctness" isn’t to blame for their decision and ‘Allo ‘Allo! merely didn’t make the cut because they’d already chosen ‘Porridge’, Are You Being Served? and ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’ as part of its classic sitcom season.
A spokesperson for the broadcaster said: "’Allo ‘Allo! was one of many programmes considered for the sitcom season – however we could only shortlist a handful and we are delighted with the four revivals we have chosen."
