Alison Steadman would be ‘in heaven’ if Gavin and Stacey returned

Alison Steadman would be "in heaven" if ‘Gavin and Stacey’ returned.

The 74-year-old actress returned to the programme as Pam Shipman for last year’s Christmas special, which was watched by more than 18.5 million people, and while she has "no idea" when or if the BBC comedy will be back, she is keen to portray the matriarch again.

She said: "Maybe, maybe, maybe, I’ve no idea.

"I would be in heaven if that happened.

"But we don’t know if it will."

However, there will be a ‘Gavin and Stacey’ reunion of sorts this Christmas.Alison has teamed up with Rob Brydon – who played Uncle Bryn in the sitcom – on a new Sky festive film, ‘Roald and Beatrix’, which tells the true story of when Roald Dahl met his hero Beatrix Potter.

Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, the actress added: "It’s very moving. The wonderful Dawn French plays Beatrix Potter.

"I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve not seen it yet.

"I think it will be a lovely thing to watch at Christmas."

In May, Alison admitted she would "run to Cardiff" to film another series of ‘Gavin and Stacey’.

She said: "I don’t take any notice of rumours .But there’s no way I wouldn’t do it. I’d run to Cardiff to be involved."

Speaking about the huge success of the festive special – which also starred co-writers James Corden and Ruth Jones – she added: "All these years I’ve been watching telly on Christmas Day, and there I was in the highlight of the evening. I felt very proud."
