Alison Steadman "doubts" that ‘Gavin & Stacey’ will return.
The 73-year-old actress plays Pam Shipman in the sitcom, which returned to screens for a Christmas special last year, but feels that the commitments of creators James Corden and Ruth Jones will prevent it returning for more episodes, despite the cliffhanger ending in the festive instalment which saw Ness propose to Smithy.
Speaking about a potential return on today’s (28.02.20) episode of ‘This Morning’, Alison said: "Honestly, I’ve no idea. I would doubt it because James is in America he’s such a big star now, and Ruth is so busy writing novels."
When asked by host Eamonn Holmes about the possibility of an anniversary special, she said: "A special would be amazing, but we’ll see."
The ‘Hold the Sunset’ actress also recalled how she "nearly dropped" her phone after receiving a text from Ruth asking her if she’d be up for reprising her role as Pam – the mother of titular character Gavin (Mathew Horne).
Alison explained: "I got a text from Ruth Jones, who said if this happens, would you be willing to take part. I nearly dropped my phone.
"We had to be in complete silence for three months, we couldn’t say anything to anyone."
Alison admitted that she was worried that the Christmas special would disappoint fans and was concerned about them building it up.
She said: "I found it worrying, everyone was talking to me about it everywhere I went. I was thinking don’t build it up so much."
The star also admitted that it was a challenge filming the festive special at the height of the summer.
Alison recalled: "We actually filmed it in August, the three hottest weeks in the summer and I was in a very thick jumper because we all had Christmas jumpers, so, yes, it was very hot."
