Alison King doesn’t think Carla Connor took Roy Cropper’s feelings into account by covering up his role in the boat fire.
The ‘Coronation Street’ actress has opened up about her character’s decision to try and help David Neilson’s alter ego by hiding the fact that he accidentally sparked the blaze by knocking over a lamp while he was sleepwalking, which led to the flames consuming her ex Peter Barlow’s (Chris Gascoyne) vessel.
Speaking to Inside Soap, she said: "She hasn’t really allowed for Roy’s strong principles – she just swept in and made the decision for him.
"I think she expected him to be mortified when she found out he’d set alight Peter’s boat, but she didn’t anticipate him being angry with her!"
Another of Peter’s former flames Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) found herself a suspect – before it was discovered she had a solid alibi – but Alison insisted it wasn’t "premeditated" by Carla.
She added: "That wasn’t premeditated on Carla’s part. It was just if people were suspecting Abi, they wouldn’t be looking at Roy. She was desperate to protect him, and she’s not trying to stop Peter and Abi making a go of it."
Meanwhile, Alison also admitted Carla will find it "difficult" if her relationship with father figure Roy breaks down over the blaze and her subsequent cover up.
She said: "It will be difficult. Even if Johnny is her dad, Roy is the one who has been most like a dad to her, and the person who totally gets her and cares unconditionally."
