Alison Hammond gave the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ bosses a "dud" phone before she went into the jungle so that she could speak to her family.
The ‘This Morning’ presenter entered the famous Croc Creek six days after the rest of the contestants when she took part in the creepy-crawly show in 2010 and, although she was meant to hand over her electronics before she went into isolation ahead of her stint, she came up with a cunning plan to ensure she could speak to her mother and son in the 10 days leading up to her appearance on the programme.
Speaking on the brunch time show on Wednesday (22.11.17), she said: "Because I’m a reality TV veteran I took two phones, I gave them a dud one and kept the other one. SO as soon as I was in the hotel I was on the phone to my mum, like, ‘Alright mum, whose in the jungle, what’s going on?’ It also meant I could speak to my son every day, so for 10 days I had a phone. When I had to go in, I turned it off and put it into my suitcase because I thought they would have checked it, but you know what? They never checked anything, I could have taken it in. I’m sure I would have been busted quickly but I could have took it in the dunnie and used it."
And, although the celebrities aren’t allowed their phones in the camp, they are allowed one luxury item – and the 42-year-old comedienne chose Vaseline because she smothered it under her boobs to stop them from chaffing from the heat.
She explained: "I never used the shower to be honest. They give you a deodorant, it’s an organic one so it doesn’t smell great. They give you a deodorant, a lip balm, a mirror, a toothbrush and then your luxury item. My luxury item was Vaseline … Because I’ve got big boobs I had Vaseline so I could rub it in to stop them chaffing."
