Former ‘Love Island’ star Alexandra Cane has lost 14 pounds in three months after using exercise to get herself out of a "black hole" of negativity.
The 28-year-old brunette beauty struggled with her mental health after appearing on the ITV reality dating show in 2018 and that led to her gaining a significant amount of weight, but now she has beaten her blues with a healthy eating plan and a high intensity workout regime.
In an interview with The Sun Online, she said: "I really lost myself. I was in a black hole and I knew I had to change but I needed to get myself out of it. The first step is the hardest. I was not myself. It was a mental thing. I was snappy, negative and it was not the Alex I know. I knew something wasn’t right.
"I think the pressures of coming out of the show, you get projected into such a spotlight which no one can prepare you for. Having to deal with backlash, public opinions and all eyes on you."
Alexandra has gone down from 11 stone to nine stone and has achieved this by not cutting any type of food out of her diet to help her lose the weight, but has learned the importance of portion control.
She shared: "I haven’t really cut anything out, it’s just about understanding numbers, calories in and calories out. Portion control has been massive for me. I had accepted my body. I never believed I could look like this."
Alexandra also significantly cut down on her alcohol intake after realising she was drinking too much, and she admits it is easy for former Love Islanders to get embroiled in a hard-partying lifestyle after they leave the villa.
She said: "I think the pressures of coming out of the show, you get projected into such a spotlight which no one can prepare you for. Having to deal with backlash, public opinions and all eyes on you. You find yourself not looking after yourself. I found myself in a massive rut.
"There is so much pressure, we have a huge partying and drinking culture. I have massive social anxiety and when I go out I feel obliged to be drinking with everyone."
Following her body transformation, Alexandra has now launched her own fitness and wellbeing app, Alexandra’s Happy Body Plan, and she hopes to inspire others to achieve and maintain a healthy mind and body.
She said: "I hope I can motivate them and encourage them to be the best versions of themselves."
