Alex Brooker ‘heart-broken’ at Sink or Swim ending

Alex Brooker says being forced to stop his ‘Sink or Swim’ challenge was one of the "all-time heart-breaking moments" of his life.
The ‘Last Leg’ host and his co-stars couldn’t complete their English Channel swim on the Channel 4 show because of poor weather conditions, but he is determined to resume the challenge at some point after coming within five miles of the goal.
He said: "It was probably one of the all-time heart-breaking moments of my life, because we were so close … we were five miles away.
"It still bothers me now. I’ve got to finish it.
"We’ve got to do it again. Obviously not on my own that would take ages. That would be for Stand Up to Cancer 2022, but I have to finish it."
Alex couldn’t believe it when show bosses said it was too dangerous to try to complete the mammoth swim, but realised when he watched last night’s (17.09.19) episode that the conditions weren’t great.
He added: "I was very gutted about it, but last night watching the show I felt proud.
"When we first got out I couldn’t believe when they called it.
"I genuinely thought they’d done something wrong, I thought, ‘They’re out of order, I can’t believe they called it.’
"Then you look at the weather …"
Alex took part in the show – in which several celebrities learned to swim before taking on the challenge – alongside the likes of former Olympian Linford Christie, and ex-‘Love Island’ star Wes Nelson, and their coach Ross Edgley has praised them all as "heroes".
Speaking in a joint interview on ‘Lorraine’, he added: "When you look at the English Channel it has this strange allure that you go from Dover to Calais, that’s this romantic ideal and anything in between is sometimes considered a failure.
"But when you watch that back they’re all absolute heroes. They couldn’t have done anymore."
