Alan Hansen was very impressed by Gary Lineker’s acting skills when they filmed their new Walkers crisps advert – but he doesn’t think his friend is good enough to make movies.
The retired pundit worked with Gary for many years on BBC’s football highlights show ‘Match of the Day’ and he’s teamed up with him again and fellow soccer expert Jamie Redknapp to make a promo for Walkers new Tear ‘n’ Share crisp range.
Alan readily admits he and Jamie struggled to get their scenes right, but Gary, who has been the face of the snack brand for 21 years, was a natural in front of the cameras.
However, he insists the former England striker doesn’t have the talent to make the jump to the big screen.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, he said: "We never stopped laughing because Gary has been doing it a long time and he’s absolutely terrific doing his facial poses and reactions. Jamie and I were just useless, I’m not kidding you, we were so bad at acting. That’s why we never stopped laughing. It was so funny because we just could not get the hang of what was going on but Lineker was terrific I must admit. I was very impressed with Gary’s acting abilities, he sailed through and me and Jamie could have been doing it another month and we wouldn’t have got it right. He’s good but he’s not good enough to be a film, no way. He’s good at doing the adverts but that’s it."
And, although he’s got his first taste of acting, Alan is adamant he’ll never attempt shooting an advert again.
He said: "Doing the advert hasn’t given me the acting bug I think you’ll find that’s the last advert I’ll ever do. It was so bad I thought that’ll do for me."
