AJ Pritchard says brother Curtis is genuine but he can be ‘too honest’

AJ Pritchard says his brother Curtis can be too honest but he wasn’t "playing a game" with Amy Hart on ‘Love Island’.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro has defended his 23-year-old brother over claims he was toying with the Irish beauty when he called time on their villa romance after he pursued Jourdan Riane while the girls were at second villa Casa Amor, and admitted he couldn’t guarantee his head wouldn’t be turned again.
However AJ, 24, told ITV’s ‘This Morning’: "People said he was playing the game. Well, no, if he was playing a game he’d have just stuck with her, made it look perfect, won it, and then left and it would all have gone sideways.
"But no – he is so honest that he just had to be true to himself, and true to Amy. As much as it did hurt for us to see, and for them in the villa, it was the best thing."
And the sibling’s mother Debi agreed that the former flame’s half-relationship was "so real".
She said: "I think initially, truly, both Curtis and Amy, it was real. Every second of those two, three, four weeks was so real. The bubble was there, and Amy’s friendship grew and grew and grew.
"And when the bubble burst because of Casa Amor, Curtis was out of the bubble and maybe stopped to think maybe Amy’s relationship is growing at a faster rate to mine, and he questioned it."
While AJ and Curtis’ dad Adrian had some doubts about his son going into the villa, he had faith in him to "do the right thing".
He added: "Originally, I was thinking is this the right thing to do? But I thought people will see, that is Curtis there. He’ll do the right thing. He thinks he’s on holiday, literally.
"But the thing is, I could tell from his body language that something wasn’t right, and that was horrible for us to watch. He was so upset, that was terrible."
Meanwhile, AJ admitted he’s missing his younger brother and broke down in tears when they last spoke to each other on the phone.
He said: "It is sad, I just wanna give him a hug… I got the phone call, he said ‘I’ve gotta put the phone down now, I’ve got to go into the villa’. I was in the gym on my own crying my eyes out. It was the saddest thing ever."
