Aidan Turner: Fans can get ‘hands-on’ at Poldark screenings

Poldark’s Aidan Turner says women can sometimes "get a little hands-on" when they meet him at screenings.
The 36-year-old actor plays Ross Poldark in the BBC drama, and while he admits his female fans can be a bit touch-feely at times, he never feels as though his "safety is in question", and he can see how a woman might feel intimidated by a group of 20 men in a similar situation.
He said: "If I go to a BFI screening and 20 women come up and they want selfies, it can sometimes get a little hands-on.
"But I never feel my safety is in question. I never feel like I need to get out of there. I don’t get scared, so it’s different. Whereas a woman might, if it happened with 20 guys crowding around her."
Aidan admits he endured a "really strange" final day on set, because he spent the whole day "in bed" with co-star Eleanor Tomlinson (Demelza Poldark).
He said: "The very last scene I shot was just myself and Eleanor in the bedroom. So we spent the day in bed together, which was really strange. No love scenes or anything – just having a chat. All day just talking in bed, which felt right.
"I don’t think we planned it to be that day; it just happened with the scheduling. So that was really quite poignant. I think we were both thankful for that."
Fans of the series have been gripped by Ross and Demelza’s passionate but troubled relationship, and Aidan admitted it was "seamless" how the pair have generated such chemistry.
He added to Radio Times magazine: "It just seamlessly happened. We tuned ourselves to the same frequency. There’s a lot of respect we have for each other.
"Working with Eleanor has always been one of my highlights."
