Dominic Treadwell Collins changed Lucy Beale’s killer

‘EastEnders’ boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins has changed the identity of Lucy Beale’s killer.

The BBC One soap’s producer has revealed that although he and the writers had already decided who the culprit was when the murder took place on-screen in April, they’ve had to rethink the storyline and have now placed the blame on another character.

Dominic told the Daily Star newspaper: "When we first talked about the story, there was one killer but something did not fit right about that person.

"It was a very clever idea but it didn’t come from the heart.

"So we locked ourselves away in a hotel room to come up with an alternative killer. It feels emotionally right, true and very exciting. From that moment it’s been locked in, and we would not cheat the audience by changing it now."

However, viewers will still have to wait until next February to find out who murdered Lucy (Hetti Bywater), but Dominic admits there will be less speculation after Christmas.

He added: "On New Year’s Day, the list of suspects will become much, much smaller."

Characters that have been under suspicion for the murder so far include Max Branning (Jake Wood) and Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick).
