Selena Gomez was ‘burnt out’

Selena Gomez was "burnt out" before she went to rehab.

The ‘Come & Get It’ hitmaker, who secretly spent two weeks at the Dawn at the Meadows treatment facility in Wickenburg, Arizona last month, decided to seek help after vowing to "get healthy" at the end of 2013 but was never "out of control."

Asked why she decided to seek help, a source close to the 21-year-old star told Billboard.com: "Project wellness. She was burnt out after a relentless year of back-to-back films, concerts, TV, touring and all the promotional work that goes along with it. She needed a break."

While the brunette beauty enjoyed her share of partying last year, the insider insisted she wasn’t suffering from addiction or body issues.

The source said: "She’s not that girl. Does she party and have the occasional joint? Yes. Does she drink when she goes out? Yes. But she’s not struggling with drug addiction or alcoholism. I’ve never seen her out of control."

Selena – whose on/off relationship with Justin Bieber is said to have contributed to her problems – reportedly left rehab four weeks early as she felt two weeks there was enough to get her back on track.

Following her treatment, the ‘Spring Breakers’ star – who cancelled a planned tour of Australia this month – is now focused on returning to work and has been reading lots of scripts and attending casting calls in a bid to move forward.
