Charlie Condou: Corrie exit feels right

Charlie Condou feels it’s the "right time" to leave ‘Coronation Street’.

The actor is to bow out of the soap next week when his character Marcus Dent’s relationship with Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley) hits the rocks and Charlie feels content with his decision, as he’s been involved in lots of exciting storylines during his time on the cobbles.

Appearing on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’ earlier today (09.07.14), he said: "I was in ‘Corrie’ for a year [initially], I left for a few years and then I went back just for three months. They asked me to stay and before I knew it, I’d done another three-and-a-half years.

"I think once I’d made the decision to go, I realised that it had to be sooner rather than later. So it was sad but it felt like the right thing to do.

"It’s been brilliant. I’ve had a fantastic time and I’ve loved it, particularly with everything that’s happened with Marcus being a gay man and then suddenly falling in love with a woman – and then of course leaving that woman for another man. It’s been complex, but I’ve had a great time."

Since his departure from Weatherfield, the 41-year-old actor has relocated back to London to be with his family.

He added: "It was really sad and it was a difficult decision to make, but I never planned on being there forever and ever. I’m based in London, my kids are in London, my partner, my family."
