Brooke Vincent: Men think I’m a lesbian

Brooke Vincent finds it hard to meet men because they think she’s a lesbian in real life.

The ‘Coronation Street’ beauty, who plays lesbian Sophie Webster, admits she doesn’t get much attention from the opposite sex following her split from footballer Josh McEachran as guys assume she only likes women.

She said: "That’s the first question a lad will ask me, ‘Are you really a lesbian?’ "

The 22-year-old actress, whose character is in a serious relationship with Maddie Heath (Amy Kelly), admits she worried how viewers would react to her storyline but is pleased with the positive impact it has had on young lesbian viewers.

She explained to The Sun newspaper: "I was worried how people were going to respond because I was the first ‘Corrie’ lesbian. I was the first soap lesbian, really. I’m probably the first proper one.

"A lot say, ‘Oh, my gran understands now, because you’re a lesbian on ‘Corrie’ and she watches ‘Corrie’.’

"It’s normally the older generation that struggles with it because it was not around in their day, never heard of, and you couldn’t say this and couldn’t say that."

Brooke finds the positive effect incredibly rewarding and thinks her plot has been an "amazing experience".

She added: "It’s just knowing you’re helping that one person, it makes such a difference. So many people tweet me and say, ‘Thank you for this.’ "
