James Buckley hasn’t watched The Inbetweeners

James Buckley doesn’t like watching ‘The Inbetweeners’.

The 26-year-old actor, who played sex-mad teenager Jay Cartwright on the E4 comedy series, claims he has hardly seen any episodes of the hit show because he finds it "boring" watching himself on TV.

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I don’t watch the show with my family at all. There’s loads of episodes that I’ve never seen! I’m really proud of it, I think it’s very funny. But it’s just that it’s a bit boring for me.

"I was there doing the scenes 20 times over. When I watch the episode when they go to the nightclub, for example, all I’m going to think about is how many degrees it was below zero, and how we were up all night doing it and freezing and miserable."

James joked that fans are disappointed when they meet him in real life because he is worlds apart from his crude alter-ego.

He said: "When I meet people in the street, I can see in their eyes that there’s a tiny part of them that slowly dies because I’m not this crazy, mental, misogynistic teenager. I’m actually painfully boring, I think that destroys Jay for them."

But the actor – who is returning alongside Simon Bird, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas for ‘The Inbetweeners 2’ movie this summer – sometimes finds himself getting carted off by laddish fans who treat him exactly like his hapless character.

He added: "I’m very popular with the lads. They think they’re talking to Jay. I’m just a little, shy bloke. Because ‘The Inbetweeners’ are so sweet and innocent and are just four idiots that people do what they like with, I get pulled about a lot like a rag doll.

"They’ll go, ‘Come over here, Jay! Look who it is!’ I just float away with them. I get a lot of ‘bus w****r’ comments!"

James hosted an epic pub crawl event in Shoreditch to help celebrate Bing’s fifth birthday. Find out more about how to take part in the Bing It On challenge at www.bingiton.com.
