Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley teases announcement on same day Linkin Park countdown ends

Deryck Whibley has teased an announcement on the same day Linkin Park’s countdown ends.

The Sum 41 frontman – whose ‘In Too Deep’ band will end their farewell tour in January 2025 – has told fans to expect some news from him this week.

On the group’s official X account, a post reads: “Tune in Wednesday morning, Deryck Whibley announcement.”

On Wednesday (28.08.24), Linkin Park’s own countdown is set to end, prompting speculation that he could be the one to replace Chester Bennington.

The ‘In The End’ rocker’s iconic frontman died in 2017, and there have long been rumours the group will embark on a reunion tour.

In April, Billboard reported that bandmates Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell have been “mulling a possible 2025 reunion tour”.

At the time, it was suggested the trio were “considering hiring a female vocalist” to “succeed” their late friend.

Although there’s no confirmation Deryck and Linkin Park’s announcement are connected, some fans are hoping that could be the case.

Deryck and Mike shared the stage at Reading and Leeds Festival in 2018 for a special rendition of ‘Faint’.

Evanesence singer Amy Lee has since shot down suggestions she is lined up to join Linkin Park, which comes as fans were hoping she could be the mystery singer.

She told iHeartRadio Canada: “That is an incredible compliment. I have not heard that. No, I have not been contacted or anything like that. But [I’m a] huge fan feel like our worlds, our fanbases are a lot of the same people.”

She joked they “should ask”, and despite her own hectic schedule she “might do it part-time”.

Last month, guitarist Mike Shinoda insisted once there is something firm to announce, fans will hear the news direct from the ‘What I’ve Done’ group.

He told Revolver magazine: “People always ask what’s next for the band, and the best answer I can ever give anybody is when there’s something to tell you, we will tell you.”
