Ladybyrd ‘hugely inspired’ by Taylor Swift

Ladybyrd is “hugely inspired” by Taylor Swift.

The ‘Way Back Home’ singer admires the ‘Anti-Hero’ hitmaker for her powerful lyrics and her extensive catalogue makes for regular listening.

She told BANG Showbiz about her inspirations: “There are many, but as with many young artists, I have been hugely inspired by the works of Taylor Swift.

“‘Folklore’ has had a huge impact on me and my songwriting – her lyricism is on another level, and I remember listening to songs from it such as ‘my tears ricochet’ and thinking ‘Wow, I’d love to be able to write as well as this one day.’

“One of her more recent songs, ‘Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve’, has quickly become one of my all-time favourites and inspires me every day – such a powerful song that I relate to, with amazing lyrics.”

When it comes to her own songwriting process, Ladybyrd always has a long of “random voice notes” and snatches of lyrics she can refer back to.

She explained: My creative process can be quite different with each song. Some songs I just sit down at the piano and write in one go, whereas with others I draw upon random voice notes from the past and piece them together.

“I always keep lots of poetry and lyrics in my notebooks too, in case musical inspiration strikes. I usually write when my emotions are running high and I’m on my own, but I also love collaborating with others.”

The ‘Sub Zero’ singer previously had an “amazing” encounter with Tom Cruise, which has led to her providing vocals for a soundtrack, though she’s staying tight-lipped about the specifics of the project.

She said: “That was a chance meeting somewhere I was working for a short period. I am a big fan, so I saw the opportunity and took it, and it was amazing to speak to him!

“I can’t say much yet, but it’s for a TV series!”

‘Way Back Home’ is out now ahead of Ladybyrd’s debut album.
