Sheryl Crow rages against the AI machine on Evolution with the help of RATM’s Tom Morello

Sheryl Crow shares her concerns about AI (Artificial Intelligence) in her new song ‘Evolution’.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, 61, has shared the title track from her upcoming 11th studio album, and she admits she finds it “unsettling” that her children could grow up in a world dominated by the tech used by machines capable of performing tasks that require human intelligence.

Grammy winner Sheryl – who has two adopted sons – said: “Stephen Hawking [late theoretical physicist] worried that AI would replace humans. As a mom, I want to leave a better world for my children, a healthier planet – is AI going to be a benevolent partner in these goals or not? It’s unsettling, and this song deals with those anxieties.”

On how the track came about, she shared: “I wrote the song with just me on guitar and vocals, sent it to [producer] Mike Elizondo and said, this is bigger than me, can you take a crack at it?”

It features an epic guitar solo by Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello.

She said of the 59-year-old rocker’s contribution: “To me, Tom’s playing comes from some other planet.

“It’s a cool bit of kismet that we were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in the same year, and his solo on ‘Evolution’ just ejects you into space.”

The full album arrives on March 29.

Meanwhile, it appears Rage Against The Machine have parted ways once more.

Drummer Brad Wilk, 55, recently claimed he and his bandmates – Tim Commerford, 55, Zack de la Rocha, 54, and Tom – “will not be touring or playing live again” as a band.

He announced on Instagram: “I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new tour dates for all the cancelled RATM shows.

“So, while there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future… I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom and I) will not be touring or playing live again.

“I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was…”

He signed off the post: “Bottom of my heart… Thank you to every person who has ever supported us.”

The ‘Killing in the Name’ group had to cancel their 2022 UK and Europe dates and North American shows in 2023 after frontman Zack tore his Achilles tendon while performing.

Guitarist Tom recently insisted he didn’t know if they would be going back out on the road, insisting “we’re in [a] time of healing”.

And he was unsure if they were on an indefinite hiatus.

The ‘Killing In The Name’ hitmakers first briefly broke up in late 1994, due to creative differences, before regrouping for the KROQ Weenie Roast in June 1995.

In 2000, Zack quit the group because their “decision-making process completely failed”.

And they have had several periods of timeout over the years.
