‘An outrage’ Matty Healy fumes over 1975’s Grammy Awards snub

Matty Healy thinks it is a “f****** outrage” The 1975 haven’t been nominated for a Grammy Award.

The ‘I’m In Love With You’ group failed to land a single place on the shortlists when the nominations for the upcoming ceremony were revealed last week and the 34-year-old singer accused the Recording Academy of being “mental” by snubbing their work once again.

Speaking on stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden during The 1975’s ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ tour, Matty fumed: “The fact we didn’t get nominated for a Grammy is a f****** outrage.

“And the reason people don’t say that is ’cause it’s not a very tasteful thing to say. But I’m way past tasteful.

“Are you f****** mental?! Are they f****** mental?! ‘A Brief Inquiry…’, ‘I Like It When You Sleep…’ – nothing. F*** off! D********. What the f*** are they on about?

“I mean, [2022 song] ‘About You’ just on its own merits deserves a f****** Grammy. I mean, I don’t really care that much but it just winds me up.”

Matty insisted he wasn’t being “self-celebratory” but praised outspoken rapper Kanye West as “one of [his] heroes” for his belief in himself.

He said: “You know what? You’ve gotta fucking believe in yourself. [West is] an awkward hero to have right now, I understand that. But separate the anti-Semitism – just think about the self-belief.

“Literally tell me one band in the past four years that could do what we’re gonna do in the next three minutes.”

To date, the Recording Academy has only previously shortlisted the band’s ‘I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It’ for Best Boxed of Special Limited Edition Package in 2017 and Best Rock Song for ‘Give Yourself A Try’ in 2020.

Meanwhile, in the nominations for the upcoming 67th Grammy Awards – which will take place in Los Angeles on 4 February – Jack Antonoff, who worked on The 1975’s 2022 LP ‘Being Funny in a Foreign Language’ is in the running for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.
