Kate Garraway can’t spend 15th anniversary with husband

Kate Garraway won’t be able to see her husband on their 15th wedding anniversary.

Derek Draper – who married Kate in 2005 – was rushed to hospital in March when he tested positive for coronavirus, and while he is now free of Covid-19, he remains in intensive care following the impact of the deadly respiratory disease, meaning the 54-year-old TV presenter won’t be able to celebrate their milestone with him.

Appearing on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Thursday (10.09.20), she said: "It is actually Derek and I’s wedding anniversary today, 15 years today. What an extraordinary thing.

"I won’t be able to see him today, I kind of hoped I would, but it hasn’t worked out that way for the visit so, maybe it would have been a bit strange anyway. It’s a tough day, but he’s still here, there’s not a huge amount that has changed."

The 53-year-old former political advisor is one of five people in the world who has been affected so badly by the virus.

It has impacted his lungs and intestines, and his kidneys started failing.

But Kate – who has kids Darcy, 14, and Billy, 11, with Derek – is staying positive, knowing her husband is still here.

She added: "It’s very strange, I haven’t seen you in ages and so much happens in that couple of weeks there are so many seemingly positives and then plungings but actually, what I seem to forget, is that it’s just the same.

"And what you have to think is as well, at least he is still here with me, it’s a flicker and a bad day but you just have to keep going."
