Ant McPartlin is convinced he would win ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ if he was a contestant on the show.
The 44-year-old star has hosted the ITV reality series as one half of Ant and Dec – his presenting partner Declan Donnelly – since the programme began in 2002 and if he ever swapped roles and became a campmate he is certain the nation would vote for him to be crowned King of the Jungle.
He made his bold claim in Ant and Dec’s new book ‘Once Upon A Tyne’, which tells the story of the duo’s 30 years in television.
Asked how they would fare as campmates, Dec said: "We’ve thought about it and I actually think Ant would do really well. Definitely top three."
Ant boastfully added: "Top three? I’d win it!"
To which Dec said: "You might be right. You’re very outdoorsy, you get on with people, you’re quite patient, you’d give the trials a good go, you’d eat anything. I think you’d do really really well."
Although Ant, 44, was tipped as a potential winner, the pair were less enthusiastic about 44-year-old Dec’s chances of success in the jungle.
Ant said: "Well, let’s just say I think you’d be brilliant at ‘Strictly (Come Dancing’). I’m not sure you’re cut out for ‘I’m A Celeb…’
"Where shall I start? Because you’re the kind of person who would say, ‘No thank you,’ and walk after three days, because you’ve got a short fuse, because you’re not that into outdoors, you get grumpy when you’re hungry."
The pair’s campmate claims come just weeks before the new series of ‘I’m A Celebrity…’ starts with the contestants facing a different type of challenge this year.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the show’s location has been switched from the Australian jungle to the historic Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales, at which numerous ghost sightings have been reported.
